Maintaining Solid Wood Kitchen Cabinets

Solid wood is great for kitchen cabinetry in every possible way. The material holds its shape and retains its good looks year after year, when veneers obviously would fade. And along with all these qualities, solid wood cabinets are also strikingly beautiful. It is a lot more attractive than fiberboards, or chipboards, even the ones enhanced with a Formica or vinyl surface. Engineered wood is a composite material that uses wood strands, fibers, veneers and other leftovers to manufacture. It might look just like the real thing, in reality it is anything but. And that’s why we offer nothing but the real solid wood kitchen cabinets to our clients.

How To Keep Your Wood Cabinets Shiny And New!

All they need is a bit of TLC! Keep your cabinets tidy and well-organized. Then make sure that all the grease, spills, food and moisture is cleaned promptly. That really is all you need to do. No expensive special products or professional help needed! Also, try to minimize the dirt and grime on the inside of the cabinets, to ensure that your glassware remains safe and beautiful. Always keep the drawers and shelves lined with parchment paper. The knife drawer could use a vinyl board cover to keep the knives from sliding around.

Cleaning the Wood Cabinets

Oil-soap wood cleaners are cheap and easily available. But it’s not a necessity. Wooden cabinets are easily cleaned using the following materials that you probably already own:
  • Detergent: Use any dish or laundry detergent to gently clean your cabinets. But wait! First mix about two cups of water to one cup of detergent. Softly apply this cleaning solution to your cabinets, don’t scrub hard at all. Next just clean with a damp cloth. Give it another wipe down with a separate cloth and you are done.
  • Vinegar: Do a wipe down with a vinegar and water solution. This is great for removing sticky grease and dirty finger marks.
  • Baking Soda: The hardest stains can’t stand a pat down with baking soda. Create a light mixture with water, apply it to your cabinets and then wipe clean with a wet cloth.

Taylor Bishop -

Thanks for explaining some ways to maintain solid wood cabinets. I actually didn’t know that it could be good to clean the cabinets dish detergent could be used to clean cabinets. I’m interested to learn if this is the case for all wood cabinets or if some wood should be cleaned differently.
